Psychological assessment

Psychological Assessments Canberra

A thorough, professional way to understand what is going on and what will help, with clear answers you can act on.

What it is

Understanding yourself, clearly

A psychological assessment is a structured way of understanding how you think, feel and function, carried out by a registered psychologist. It brings together your history, standardised testing and clinical insight to give you an accurate picture, and clear, practical recommendations for what comes next.

People come for many reasons: to make sense of long-standing difficulties, to get answers after years of uncertainty, or because a diagnosis or formal report is needed for treatment, work or study. Whatever the reason, the goal is the same. Real clarity you can use.

You cannot work with what you do not understand. A good assessment turns confusion into a clear starting point.
What it can clarify

Questions an assessment can answer

An assessment can help make sense of a wide range of experiences and point clearly toward the right support. Common reasons people come in include:

  • Persistent anxiety, worry or panic
  • Low mood, depression or feeling flat
  • Ongoing stress and burnout
  • The impact of trauma or difficult experiences
  • Difficulty concentrating or coping day to day
  • Sleep, mood or emotional regulation concerns
  • Adjustment to a major life change
  • Understanding patterns that keep repeating
What to expect

How the assessment works

A clear, staged process, combining a warm initial conversation with formal clinical assessment by a psychologist.

1

Initial consultation

With Darleen

We begin with a relaxed conversation about what has brought you in, your history and what you are hoping to understand. This helps us shape the assessment around your situation and make sure it is the right step for you.

2

Clinical assessment

With the psychologist

A registered psychologist carries out the formal assessment using standardised, validated tools. This looks carefully at the areas relevant to your situation and considers other factors that can present in similar ways, so the picture is accurate and complete.

3

Feedback and report

With the psychologist

The psychologist talks you through the findings in plain language and provides a formal written report with any diagnosis and clear, practical recommendations. The report is suitable for sharing with your GP or other providers.

4

Support and next steps

With Darleen

An assessment is only useful if it leads somewhere. We help you act on the recommendations with counselling and practical support, and coordinate with other professionals where further care is involved.
