7-Step Couples Programme

A guided path back to each other

60 days · therapist-led · in person or online

Every relationship hits points where connection feels harder than it used to. This is a structured way through, one step at a time.

Why couples come in

Sound familiar?

Most couples we see are not in crisis. They are simply tired of the same patterns, and ready to try something different.

  • Communication that turns into conflict
  • Feeling more like housemates than partners
  • The same argument on repeat
  • Trust that needs rebuilding
  • Intimacy and closeness fading
  • Parenting or family stress spilling over
  • Life admin crowding out connection
  • Wanting to reconnect but not knowing how

A shared language helps. Part of the work is learning how you each give and receive care. The five love languages are a simple place to start:

  1. Words of affirmation
  2. Quality time
  3. Acts of service
  4. Physical touch
  5. Receiving gifts
Why this matters

Small distances become large ones

Miscommunication

Words land differently than they were meant, and small misreadings quietly stack up over time.

Loss of intimacy

Closeness fades when connection stops being tended, until the space between you starts to feel normal.

Unmet needs

Needs that go unspoken tend to go unmet, and resentment grows in the gap.

Cycles of conflict

The same argument returns in new clothing, and the pattern becomes more familiar than the resolution.

Left unaddressed, these patterns settle in and start to feel permanent. They are not. With the right structure and support, couples do find their way back.

Who you will work with

Meet Darleen

I am the founder and director of DIPAC, which I established in 2009. Across around 25 years of practice I have supported many couples and families through difficult seasons, and the 7-step programme grew directly out of that work: a clear, structured path rather than open-ended sessions.

The programme

Seven steps over sixty days

A guided sequence, each step building on the one before. Most sessions run for 60 minutes, with two extended 120-minute sessions: Disclosure at Step 3 and RESET at Step 5. Book them as you go, at a pace that works for you.

1

Joint Therapist-Led Appointment

Week 1 · 60 mins together

  • Establish shared goals and expectations for the programme
  • Identify key areas of struggle and desired outcomes
  • Begin the process of rebuilding trust and connection

Many couples enter feeling frustrated or hopeless. This first session helps both partners feel heard, understood, and hopeful.

2

Individual Therapist-Led Sessions

Week 2 · 60 mins individually

  • Explore personal emotions, perspectives, and challenges in a safe space
  • Identify patterns that may be contributing to conflict or distance
  • Begin developing self-awareness and personal strategies for growth

Couples often do not realise the impact of unresolved personal issues on the relationship. Individual sessions create the foundation for empathy, understanding, and emotional readiness.

3

Disclosure – Relationship Mapping

Week 3 · 120 mins together

  • An extended session to identify the real issues, safely and honestly
  • Map strengths, challenges, and recurring patterns in your relationship
  • Receive practical tools and structured homework to practice together

Understanding the full picture of your relationship uncovers hidden stressors, unmet needs, and untapped potential for connection.

When you book, a confidential questionnaire is emailed to you automatically. Please complete it before your session.

4

Individual Check-In

Week 5 · 60 mins individually

  • Process insights from previous steps and integrate strategies into daily life
  • Address emerging emotional responses, frustrations, or doubts
  • Refine personal action plans for meaningful change

Without reflection, progress can plateau. This session ensures both partners are supported and committed to the work.

5

RESET Appointment

Week 6 · 120 mins together

  • An extended deep-dive session to reset the relationship
  • Set boundaries and agreements you both own, guided by a questionnaire Darleen designed for this step
  • Rebuild connection, challenge old patterns, and develop new ways of relating

This session is transformative. It helps couples release resentment, re-establish intimacy, and reconnect emotionally and physically.

When you book, a confidential questionnaire is emailed to you automatically. Please complete it before your session.

6

Therapist-Led Progress Check

Week 7 · 60 mins together

  • Review progress, consolidate positive changes, and adjust strategies as needed
  • Identify challenges and practice communication and problem-solving tools
  • Celebrate improvements and reinforce accountability

Even small changes require reinforcement. This session ensures lasting impact and strengthens commitment.

7

Follow-Up and Future Planning

Week 8 · 60 mins together

  • Review overall programme results and celebrate growth
  • Plan for ongoing relationship development and maintenance
  • Create personalised strategies for sustaining connection, intimacy, and healthy communication

Change is sustainable when couples have a roadmap for the future, with the tools and strategies learned practically embedded in daily life.
